The answer to achieving the perfect foundation and the impeccable powder applied lies in a few steps process. The first one is always hydration. Each makeup artist has his secret weapon when talking about hydration, and a great cult favorite is Embryolisee Lait-Crème Concentrè, which will nourish the skin and create a uniform surface. I really like CHANEL La Solution 10 De Chanel Cream for sensitive skin and Hydra Beauty Gel Creme.
The perfect foundation comes from the perfect selection of foundation shade. Liquid foundation should always be in the same tone and shade of your skin tone. The only way to achieve the perfect balance is to select the appropriate shade. Remove all makeup, clean your face and look straight ahead in the mirror during daylight. You are comparing the shades and the face, neck and décolletage. The outer face parts and the transition to the neck can give the right shade of foundation. MAC has incredible shade range and several lines among which there is something for every skin type.
The texture of foundation is as important as the tool you are using. Select the texture according to skin type you have - dry, normal or oily. Dry skin typically loves moisturizing and rich products as well as creamy products that keep moisture in the skin and fresh and glowy look. Normal skin can go either way- creamy, liquid or compact powder. If you have mixed or oily skin without acne-like irregularities, select a lightweight foundation and powder over the areas that need powdering, and most often it's the T-zone.
Creamy textures can give slightly more coverage and can be a bit more demanding to blend with the skin. Most known sponge is Beauty Blender and it truly is a great tool for blending liquid and creamy products. Compact powders are applied with soft and slightly larger brushes and I suggest that you do not apply a lot of products on your face. Start with a small amount and lightly dust over the parts you want to matte. Specifically, compact powders tend to emphasize wrinkles and pores, which will make you look aged and tired. The powder on the skin can be visible even when your skin is not hydrated enough or you put makeup on with dirty brushes. Recently I wrote about usage of right brushes for foundations and powders, so read this text if you are looking for brushes.
Of course, if you do not suffer from acne or scarring, think about the strategic application of powder to the skin. Most often we need to cover only certain parts of the face. After applying foundation to the place you need, cover the remaining visible irregularities with the corrector and avoid applying another layer of foundation over the entire face.
Now you have created an empty canvas for further makeup application. Take a closer look in the mirror, and if you notice that the powder is visible, blend it in with your fingers. Heat of the fingers will act on the foundation and will melt in to the skin. If you think you have too much compact powder, sprinkle a little fresh thermal water like Vichy thermal water.
