If you choose a lighter or darker shade of foundation, there will be a clearly visible and noticeable difference between it and the natural color of your skin. The difference in shades is most visible at face to neck transition, ears, and even at the back of the neck if you wear high-raised hair. It may have been easier to disguise wrong foundation color during colder days with turtle necks and all, but with first rays of sunlight, that is no longer an option.
Determine your skin tone. A simple test you can make will tell you whether you are in a group of people who have a warm or cold undertones. If you see soft pink color then you have a cold skin undertone, and pronounced yellow tones indicate a warmer under tone. Combination of the two represents neutral undertone. Another way to uncover your undertone is to look at the veins on your wrists. If they are mostly blue or purple, you fall into a cold undertone category, if you have more greenish-yellow colors, you have a warm undertone, but if your veins look like a mixture of green, blue, yellow and purple, your undertone is neutral. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry? The gold is more congenial with the warm skin tones, while the silver jewelry fits colder ones better.
When shopping for foundation, compare the three closest shades of foundation you think you are best suited, right on your jaw. Remember, liquid or any kind of foundation should not be seen on your skin - you want your skin to look natural, smooth, and foundation free.
With the coming of warmer days and summer, ours skin becomes somewhat darker. If you like to sunbathe, keep in mind that the shade of foundation must match the shade of the rest of the body. You will most likely need two different shades of foundation, one summer and another winter one, so buy liquid foundation when you're darkest and when you are the palest, or focus on the shades that will suit you most of the time.
