If you are a makeup beginner, do not let Instagram before and after pics, video tutorials, a variety of tips and product scare you. Make-up is simple after you master the basics. Today I will help you choose some product and guide you through their application.
Foundation is the first item from which everything folds out. Select your foundation depending on your skin type. Dry skin likes something more moisturizing, textures that will diminish the look of dry parts and flakes, while oily and mixed skin loves matt foundations that can keep shine and sebum under control.
If you are not sure about applying foundations and blending, you can avoid the whole mess by using tinted creams, BB or CC creams that have less coverage and are easier to apply. They apply nicely with fingers, and besides they also ingredients that has benefits for healthier skin. A great way to play with the foundations are cushion foundations. They are compact, often have light to medium coverage and are easily applied with an applicator that comes with. I've already written about the cushion foundations and you can read more on that right here. Great drugstore version of these are L'Oreal True Match Lumi cushion foundation.
Concealers with applicators are a necessity in a beginner’s cosmetic bag. For the sake of simplicity, choose concealers that can cover spots, hyperpigmentation and under eye area. NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer is great for everything. You can also try Estee Lauder Double Wear which has a very thick consistency and is extremely longwearing. Focus most of the concealer in the inner corner of the eye, then lightly blend it outwards with your fingers. This way you will achieve a fresh and natural look.
If you want to expand your knowledge in applying concealers, feel free to read the text I wrote about this subject.
Often, I have beginners asking me what is the difference between bronzers and blushes is, and where to apply which one. Double the effect and reduce application time by selecting products that can do both. Blush is applied to the top of the cheeks and its role is to imitate the natural skin color when naturally flushed. Bronzers are there to give us warmth of the face and are often applied to places where our sun naturally falls and where we first get the color. Cream products are easy to apply and blend, so I use them often and recommend them to clients. More about choosing the blush and their textures, but also the ways you can apply the blush, read in these two postings - blush textures, how to apply blush.
I wrote a post about subtle contouring in which I explained how to find the right products and what to look for. For this method, I like to use creamy blushes that can do all at once!
You should not neglect your eyebrows, even if you are a beginner. They frame the face and can make it or break it. You can check my previously written posts on defining eyebrows and all the amazing products you can find drugstore and high-end. Perhaps the simplest way to shape eyebrows is to use tinted eyebrow gel. This will shape, fill and fix them. In addition, this step is also easy to create with a transparent eyebrow gel, which gives your eyebrows structure and definition. To check what's new in the eyebrows product section, click here.
Lips can be a very easy solution to spruce up every look. Initial makeup should be simple and emphasize your natural beauty, and your lips can vary from color balm color to dazzling shades. My advice for beginners is to make sure that your lips are always nourished and supple, so lipstick can slide on your lips and look good. Apply lipstick directly to the lips, and even though you are a beginner, you can now be in trend! Apply lipstick to the middle of your lips, then gently blend it outwards with fingers to the outer edges of your lips - a very popular application technique. For this you do not need brushes or too much precision.
Leave the mascara for the end. I suggest you choose a mascara that will give volume to eyelashes and make your eyes pop! Apply mascara to the upper eyelashes and let it dry, then apply it to the lower lashes. This way you avoid mascara transferring on the lids. Find out more about mascaras on these links that have some high-end and drugstore options.
Aside from this “simple makeup for beginners” routine, this is also a fast and efficient makeup routine that is easy to do on everyday basis. Play with makeup, stay informed about products and ways of using them. Enjoy make-up!
