They were created as a response to a need for frequent reapplication of SPF on your skin, so it does not disturb the existing base and makeup. First cushion foundation was created in 2008. and so many foundations of this type have high SPF as well as great skin care ingredients. It is not surprising that many women share their great love for cushion foundations.
Sponges are soaked with foundation and are specially designed for retaining the product within themselves without spilling. Sponge applicators that come with foundations are specially designed, so they can soak up to nine times more water their size and they have antibacterial properties. Therefore, I recommend you wash them once a week and dry them on an open surface.
Using sponge applicator is recommending because they really are the best way to apply foundation. Start by lightly coating your skin for a more natural and fresh coverage and if you need an extra layer, gradually apply more. It builds up the product very nicely and yet it remains very natural looking. Apply foundation with a tapping motion, from the middle of the face pulling it outwards. If you think you need even more coverage on imperfection, just fold the applicator and tap directly to problematic areas.
One trick I have learned is flipping the cushion overonce you get to the end of the product. There may be more of foundation at the bottom of the pad, and it is not easy to get to that. Pull it out with tweezers and jam it back inside. In this way you will be able to take advantage of all the powder that is left.
I have couple of favorite ones.
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Cushion has SPF 50, which means that you are protected and made-up at the same time. It has a nice, sophisticated, slightly floral scent. The smell fades after application so you will not feel it through the day. I noticed that applying foundation with a sponge applicator provides medium and semi full coverage. Fills pores and diminishes their appearance without looking artificial. It is still very light and gives semi-matte finish. It looks nice on all skin types.
Dior Dreamskin also has a high SPF50, a pleasant smell and creamy texture. Gives a medium coverage and can be built up for full coverage. It behaves like a luxury skincare products on the skin. I recommend applying creamy textures on top of it because they will blend perfectly with foundations texture. Provides moderate glowy finish that looks very natural. It looks beautiful on a dry and combination skin.
M.A.C Matchmaster Shade Intelligence compact does not have a smell and I would recommend it if you are sensitive to odors. Does not contain oil and controls shine. It has a semi matt look to it which later transforms into a velvety matte finish. Provides easy to moderate coverage that looks like second skin. Looks good on the mixed and oily skin.
Yves Rocher Pure Light Cushion is odorless and has a light coverage. Glowy finish makes it excellent for dry skin. It takes a little time to absorb into the skin and you can combine it with creamy products on top, which only amplifies the effect of healthy, glowing skin.
